ELECTION
CAMPAIGN

This page is dedicated to on-line debates where each month we will take a new topic and give the arguments to both sides of the topic. The first debate, is set up between myself, David Swierzbiolek (Involved with the DAV for 6 years as a debater and adjudicator), and Daniel Grigg (currently studying Politics). My wish is to have feedback from people, and maybe even have an on-line debating competition. In this topic both Daniel and I will be looking at the upcoming election and giving arguments to support each side. Daniel will be taking the side of the Liberal party, while I will be arguing the point of view of the labor party. (note: This does not reflect either persons political views).

TOPIC:
WHO WILL WIN THE FEDERAL ELECTION

Supporting Prime Minister John Howard (Liberal Party): (Daniel)

I think the Howard Liberal Government should be re-elected because not only have they raised the standard of living, increased spending on vital resources in Defence and National security, Greater Foreign policy especially in International trade such as Free Trade agreement with the USA, Malaysia and Singapore including greater international relations throughout the world and assisting in areas such as The Solomon Islands, East Timor and Papua New Guinea.
Improving the Economy such as Interest rates of around 5% compared to 17% under Labor, record Unemployment at around 5% not seen since WW2 and low Inflation at 2% making it easier for consumers in terms of the affordability of goods and services. Health and Education have also received increasing amounts of funding under the Howard Government than did under Labor giving both more resources to improve vital resources.
The Howard Liberal Government has the management abilities over the Australian Labor Party to maintain great Economic strength, strong Defence and National Security and in terms of a strong Economy more resources which can be injected in Health and Education.

That's why a Liberal Govt should be re-elected.

Supporting Opposition Leader Mark Latham (Labor Party): (David)
I believe that the opposition leader Mark Latham and he's labor political party should be elected at the next election because, it is time for change......
For to long now Mr Howard has been putting himself and his party first by supporting ridiculous ideas and theories (Mainly the Iraq War), which is endangering the people of Australia. With this, continuing problems in the Health and Education departments continue to increase with funding being diverted where it is at its most needed to fund other projects which are dictated by other nations.
It is time for a change where the Prime Minister and his party listens to Australians and gives them what they need which is more funding for the under funded health system, and more funding for the leaders of tomorrow, being the children of this nation, where we believe Education should receive a boost to all schools and childcare facilities upgraded.
It is time for change for this country and this will be done through a labor government.
