AFFIRMATIVE: (WHY SHOULDN'T WE MINE URANIUM IN KAKADU NATIONAL PARK)

* ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES: - What will be the level of damage the the environment, including the animal and plant life. Kakadu is home to over 300 species of birds, 75 species of reptile, 20 different types of frog and finally there are over 10,00 different species of insects. With this, Kakadu is made up of over 20,000 sq kilometres of beautiful landscapes which include costal floodplains, wetlands, tropical woodlands an high rocky escarpments and plateaus.

* TOURISM: - Kakadu National Park is a highly visited place in Australia with 1000's of people making the journey north to witness one of the most beautiful places in the world. With this comes employment for people who live in the Kakadu area. These people run tours, supply accommodation to tourists, and also sell souvenirs. On top of that, the Kakadu fishing industry has a vital role with employment, supplying surrounding cities and town and also tourists with fish like Marlin and Barramundi.

* ABORIGINAL LAND RIGHT ISSUES: - The Kakadu National Park land belongs to the Aboriginal people of the area and with that means any mining decision would not just be decided by them but also profit them some how.

* WORLD HERITAGE: - This is probably the most important point of all those argument for mining not to go ahead in Kakadu National Park. This is due to once a place has been declared as World Heritage, no private or public enterprise can use the land at their free will. Kakadu National Park was also Australia's first place to be placed on World Heritage outlining the importance of the land.

NEGATIVE: (WHY SHOULD WE MINE URANIUM IN KAKADU NATIONAL PARK)

*ENERGY SOURCE: - The worlds energy sources are beginning to run low, especially with oil and coal not being renewable sources. Energy sources like Solar Wind and Hydro electric power are solutions but do need a lot of their energy type to be built to able to provide enough electricity to Australia. To solve this problem, Nuclear Power Stations are a major option but with this mining uranium is a must, with a large uranium source being within Kakadu National Park.

*ECONOMICAL ISSUES: - The financial possibilities of mining uranium would be huge for the Northern Territory with plenty of private companies, able to financially look after the people whom this land affects.

* EMPLOYMENT ISSUES: - With mining taking place in Kakadu National Park, it would give a chance for employment to people in the Kakadu area. These people would be employed to build mines, mine uranium, build houses for employees and develop a community in the surrounding area.
